Fish For This

Fishing at Sn@tch

Why are a bunch of women hanging out and…fishing? In a living room? Honestly they used to do it outside in a huge fountain but Ivey Deschanel remodeled Sn@tch and now the fishing area is inside. Here are six of the recent outfits fished out of the fountain, and living room, almost for free! Just for the cost of bait and a 7 Seas fishing rod and a goodly portion of time you can get these lovely outfits for free. Actually its a new one every one and a half to two weeks, but if you missed fishing for one you can buy it.

Here are the most recent three:

Here are some older ones, the colorful one is my favorite:

Help Japan

I recently stumbled over a hair store called Plume. I expected it to be in competition with .ploom so I went to check it out. Fortunately they are going for different markets and the similiar names are just a coincidence. Plume seems to specialize in odd and fantastical hair like this style called Minimalist. When I first put it on it came down over my eyes and I said that can’t be right and promptly adjusted it. However, a quick trip back to the store showed me that the intent was for a high fashion eye blocking look. I chose to stick with my edited version.

Since the style seemed to be slightly Asian inspired, I gave some thought to a modern Asian look. I recalled an outfit I had gotten at the Help Japan benefit called Hanami by Dojo. The earrings and cherry eyes are also from the benefit.

Oops I’m naked!

best in non-human
When I went to the Best in Non-Human event I optimistically thought I looked like this. There fore I was upset to be messaged instantly by several people telling me I was naked. A re log failed to bring back my clothes so I was faced with the options of finding something else to wear, leaving, or as some people enthusiastically suggested, brazening it out naked. I’m a little too much of a prude for that option so I chose to find something to wear. Unfortunately in this situation, when SL is acting up, only prim clothing will do, none of the system stuff is guaranteed to work any better than what you already aren’t wearing. Fortunately I had acquired somewhere in the course of my journeys a set of prim dancing silks. I don’t generally have an occasion to wear silks but these were unique enough to keep. Now I’m glad I did!

Best in Purple

This is going to be a fashion blog but not in the usual sense.  I will give credits where I can, but many things I show will be from designers who have moved or changed their names, or left SL entirely (to our loss) so don’t expect to run out to the store and copy my look.  I’m hoping to encourage you to look within your own massive collections (you know you have them) and find that lost pair of Maitreya shoes or Last Call outfit that’s been gathering dust.  Bring it out and mix and match with new things or free things.  Who knows what treasures you have buried in there?

I like to go to a club called Act 1.  Each set they do has a theme and the other night they were doing best in purple.  I recalled seeing a 99L purple plaid outfit while doing the Hunt for Life so I went back through the stops until I found it. I didn’t win anything at the club, but I did get a great new outfit, and guess what else, perfectly color matched boots.  Long ago I bought slouchy suede boots from Maitreya.  I discovered by accident I could edit them so I made a copy for safe keeping and proceeded to learn how to color and texture the boots.  Apologies to Maitreya if I wasn’t supposed to, I can’t transfer them or sell them so I figured it was ok.  So while I was trying on a pair with the purple outfit from UD, I found a pair that I had tried to edit but failed.  They were all different colors and didn’t go with anything.

I went to the marketplace and found some suede textures (so much for not buying anything!) and began to try to retexture the boots.  They looked ok but the color was all wrong.  So I started to play with the color, adding brownish overlay and just messing with the RGB values until the boots went with the plaid hose.  My poor attempt at

retexturing can’t possibly compete with the original, but its not bad for an amateur, plus now I have boots that match my outfit perfectly.  In the image, the purple is on the right and the original black on the left.

One last note about the outfit – missing pixels.  This might fall under the category of TMI – too much information so be warned I’m going to be talking about lady parts if you want to skip.  I wear the lovely Sia shape and skin by League and they were thoughtful enough to make realistic colored lady parts.  This is why I was dismayed to realize that I could see those parts even though I was dressed.  This is of course after I went to the best in purple event, so I flashed everyone.  The tiny shorts I was wearing were so short that they missed a couple of important pixels right in the center.  I’ve tried uploading shorts and panties before and I know how hard it is to get this area just right w/o ending up with the garment trailing down the leg.  So rather than worry about it, I just decided to fix it by putting on some underwear.  To my shock I had nothing in inventory that didn’t come up past the waistband of the shorts.  Finally I found a thong that appears to be made of silver chain so if you cross your eyes and look at me sideways you might just think it’s a belly chain.  Modesty preserved.

Opening Katerina’s Kloset

I really like to go on hunts.  I get to collect free things and as a result see new stores and buy lots of things I might have otherwise missed.  Lots of lindens spent on lots of pixels!  However that leads to a few problems;  I need to both curb my spending and, organize my inventory. What to do, what to do?  Well I’ve come up with a small plan, first off I’m going to seriously cut down on my spending, (sigh, no accessory fair for me!)  Second I’m going to go through my inventory and see what’s in it.  I’m going to make up new outfits from what’s already in my closet.  I’ve got over 60 thousand items, not all clothes of course, but I’m sure I can find a few things that will be entertaining.  Everything I purchased I purchased because I admired it’s craftsmanship and beauty.  If you aren’t following me around in second life then you have no idea of the collections I’ve amassed.  So, let’s go on a voyage of discovery and find out what’s in Kat’s Kloset.
